FAQs PDF Print E-mail
We often get many questions on our school, or martial arts in general. This FAQs list aims to uncover some of the most common ones.

The best way to get your questions answered is to take advantage of our free introductory class offer. That will give you a real “taste” of Choi Kwang Do and give you the opportunity to ask questions directly of the instructors!

How do I choose a martial arts school?
There are three important things.

Location/atmosphere of school – Make sure both are right for you. This means you can get to class in a comfortable manner and you get a good “feel” of the school. Take an intro class and see how you find it.

Instructors – Teachers that do not intimidate and bully are a great resource and always help new and regular members feel comfortable. Look out for the personal touch, it goes a long way.

Other students – if you find a varied mix of students, this is often one of the biggest indicators that you will fit in.

How do I know if I am “cut out for this?”
There are no pre-requisites for Choi Kwang Do. We have many new members from all kinds of backgrounds joining weekly. Why don’t you try it, and see if it’s for you?

How does the belt system work?
You start off as a White Belt which is the first. You then get “promoted” after you have learnt your new skills at a grading day which is held monthly. Gradings are a great day where the entire school comes together and you can showcase your new found talent.

How are the classes structured?
We recommend twice a week. The early part of the week is where you work on improving the basics to your allocated hand and foot techniques. These grow with each belt. The latter part is more of a practical nature. Most students find the latter sessions more intense.

What if I miss a class?
As a full time Academy, we offer a variety of class times and even have sessions on the weekend! You're bound to have a class that suits your schedule.
