choi kwang do classesA Typical Class...

We start off with some light stretching and warm up exercises. Grand Master Choi has developed the stretches to a science, you will utilise every muscle group. This is essential for the class ahead and towards developing optimum health. We then end with a complimentary set of stretches to cool down.

The Cassar Academy is unique! Early week classes and end-of-week classes are different and compliment each other. You'll find that no two classes will feel the same – this will help keep you engaged and focused!

After stretching we move into our patterns. The best way to describe a “pattern” is a slow, elegant set of manoeuvres which train you in the unique movements of Choi Kwang Do. Each belt has a different pattern, some are one directional and some are multi directional.

We then move into self defence which depending on which belt you have, will involve blocking and attacking with a partner. Safety is always paramount here.

Remember - one of the best ways to learn is to keep challenging yourself. Over the course of a month you might work with up to 10 different partners so you can train with people of all abilities.

The remainder of the lesson could involve anything from “in fighting” which is to learn how to escape being grabbed quickly and safely to being taught new techniques!

Other classes might start with a more intense stretch and move onto each student practising their current hand and foot techniques. The instructors will keep you at this until they have monitored every student. This sort of training gives you an amazing cardio workout!

You then might move onto an intense session where you go all-out on an opponent holding a safe and secure target to develop isolated techniques.
